Residents are celebrating the completion of a £4.5m refurbishment programme involving over 400 properties in Newington and St Andrew's, west Hull.
Designed to boost confidence in the area and encourage owners to invest in their own homes, the scheme has seen properties on four streets benefitting from front windows and doors, boundary walls, soffit and fascia boards, gutters and down pipes.
The refurbishment has restored some of the original Victorian character of the properties whilst improving them to meet modern day standards.
Trish Jarvis, Plane Street resident said: "The properties have been restored to a high level, paying attention to their unique features and the era in which they were built. I am very pleased with the replacement of the original features on my property including my tiled pathway".
Gail Hynes (pictured above) was so pleased with the improvements to the front of her property that she is now making improvements to the back of the house. "We had been living here all these years and kept on saying we were going to do something. This gave us the push we needed to do the work."
Gateway funded 100% of the work. Owners will have to pay back the grant if they subsequently sell their property within five years. The amount repayable will decrease by one fifth for each year of the five year period.
