Multi-million pound improvements to a Goole primary school remain firmly on track according to its head teacher.
Kingsway Primary School is currently being transformed as part of a massive £2million project to improve facilities for current and future generations of pupils. The huge rebuild is already starting to take shape just four months after building work began.
Liam Jackson, head teacher at the Fountayne Street school, said he thinks the improvements will be finished on time. He said: "It's fantastic to see the building really starting to take shape - we're still on track to be completed by July 2010. The children are really excited at seeing things develop. There's a long way to go but everyone cannot wait for the finished article. When it's completed it will create a lovely new environment for children to learn in."
Three classrooms have already been completely refurbished and another 11 will get a makeover in the New Year. The complete modernisation of the classrooms means children will have state-of-the-art facilities to learn in for the first time in over 50 years. A brand new Foundation Stage Unit, for nursery and reception children, will have a large ready-made outdoor play area so learning can take place within and outside of the classroom.
But it is not just the learning facilities that are being improved. A new main entrance, where visitors to the school are usually welcomed, and a large car park are already beginning to take shape. The project will also provide improved office space for the head teacher and administration staff, a new staff room and better toilet facilities for children.
Builders Hobson and Porter are behind Kingsway's first major upgrade since the school opened its doors to pupils in 1953. Mr Jackson praised the Hull-based building firm for their work. He said: "Hobson and Porter are doing a marvellous job of transforming this school. Everything looks to be going smoothly and they have continually kept everyone informed of what is happening."
